Route 73 Construction and Closures to Impact Trailhead Access
UPDATE: We recently learned this closure is NOT taking place as scheduled. No need to detour! More info when we learn more!
Traffic flow and trailhead access on Route 73 – the main artery connecting Keene Valley to Lake Placid, and providing hikers and climbers with direct access to popular areas in Cascade Pass including Cascade, Porter and Pitchoff Mountains and Pitchoff Walls – will be impacted by construction slated to occur during the month of May.
The key dates are as follows:
- From Wednesday, May 1 through Wednesday, May 22, traffic will be restricted to alternating one-way flows. Expect delays traveling on Route 73 during this time.
- From 6 a.m. Saturday, May 11 through 6 p.m. Sunday, May 12, Route 73 will be CLOSED. A signed detour route will be in place during this time.
Note: The following trailhead parking areas will be CLOSED during the entire construction period (May 1-May 22): Stagecoach Road, Cascade Mountain and Pitchoff Mountain.
ADK Rock Climbing Route Closures
Rock climbing season has arrived in the Adirondack Park! Many of our favorite cliffs are nesting sites for peregrine falcons, an endangered species in New York state. At the beginning of the season, the Department of Environmental Conservation closes whole or large portions of cliffs where peregrine falcons have regularly nested in the past.
You can find the most recent cliff closure report here.
