Bandana in the Arctic
Columbia University researcher Dale Chayes sent us this photo from his recent trip to the Arctic. “As part of a bigger research program to understand the generation and flow of freshwater in the Arctic, we built and operation a specialized water sampling system that we deploy through the sea ice after landing w/ a ski equipped DeHaviland Twin Otter (the plane in the background.)”
The picture was taken by Dan Greenspan (of the Johns Hopkins Applied Research Lab). His blog about the project (with many amazing photos) is at http://www.dangreenspan.com/blog
