Ice Series Equipment List

BEGINING ICE

MEETING TIME – 8:30 a.m.

MEETING PLACE – Rock and River Guide House, Alstead Hill Road, Keene, NY 12942

EQUIPMENT/LUNCH - Students will need appropriate cold weather clothing (a system that includes an outer shell with synthetic layers underneath, shelled gloves or mitts, wool socks and a wool/synthetic hat), a large day pack, water bottle/thermos and high energy lunch. Optional items include a lightweight down jacket for belaying, a camera and ski goggles for eye protection. All technical gear i.e. ropes, harness, helmet, crampons, ice tools and double plastic boots will be provided.

Individuals with technical gear are encouraged to bring what they own. Otherwise, your gear will be provided  

 

 

INTERMEDIATE ICE

MEETING TIME: 8:30 a.m.

THESE ARE ADVANCED COURSES. STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO BRING ALL PERSONAL TECHNICAL GEAR (i.e. boots, harnesses, helmets, crampons and ice tools). Ropes will be provided and demo gear will be available on a limited basis.

 

INTRO TO MOUNTAINEERING

MEETING TIME: 8:00 a.m.

MEETING PLACE: The Mountaineer – Keene Valley, NY 12943

EQUIPMENT LIST:

  • Day pack
  • Dress in synthetic/wool layers; bring extra warm insulating layers, gloves, hat and include a shell layer for top & bottom.
  • Plenty of food
  • Plenty of water
  • Personal repair/first aid kit
  • Helmet - mandatory
  • Mountaineering axe (piolet) mandatory (please let us know if you do not have a piolet)
  • Headlamp/flashlight with extra batteries
  • Sunglasses
  • Harness, belay device, carabiners (minimum of 2 lockers and 1 non-locking), ice tools, and crampons. If you do not have these, please call and let us know before you arrive.
  • We would like to get an early start, please arrive at the mountaineer before 8:00 am, especially if you need gear.

 

STEEP ICE FOR THE WEAK AND CHICKENHEARTED W/ DON MELLOR

MEETING TIME: 8:30 a.m.
