The
Mountaineer and Adirondack Rock and River have teamed up again to
host the eleventh ADIRONDACK INTERNATIONAL MOUNTAINEERING FESTIVAL
in Keene Valley and Keene, the heart of the High Peaks Region of New
York. The three day fest will be on Martin Luther King weekend,
January 12-14. The Mountainfest is a not for profit event that will
benefit local and regional charities.
Internationally and regionally renowned mountaineers Barry
Blanchard, Freddie Wilkinson, Carl Heilman, Wilheim Jörge, Chuck
Boyd, Jesse Williams, Geoff Tabin, Jeremy Haas, Matt Horner, Emilie
Drinkwater and Ian Boyer
will instruct clinics and courses on all levels of ice, mixed
and alpine climbing, avalanche awareness, expedition planning,
snowshoeing, mountain and high altitude medicine, as well as other
mountaineering subjects.
In addition, several of the event’s product sponsors including
Koflach,
Black Diamond, Petzl, Outdoor Research, Patagonia, Marmot,
Cloudveil, Vasque, Grivel, MSR, La Sportiva, and Mammut will provide
demo boots, crampons, ice axes, etc. for the participants to test
and climb with.
These companies along with other sponsors of the event have also
generously supplied gear and clothing door prizes for participants.
Marmot and Patagonia are this year's two major sponsors. Slide shows
will be presented on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night.
Last winter's Adirondack International Mountainfest was a big
success and we are excited about providing our customers with this
unique
educational adventure again in 2007. We want to keep the event small
and will only accept advance reservations for the clinics. We will
have Demo gear this year available to anyone who wants to test gear
on the ice wall we constructed. There will again be a big spaghetti
feed at the
Keene Valley Fire Department before Saturday night's slide show. |
