Equipment List
Everyone:
- Moderate to heavy duty Telemark or Alpine Touring (Randonee) skis and bindings. (Participants in
Karhu Traverse should use lighter weight equipment, available for rent at no
charge).
- Plastic (or heavy duty double leather) telemark, AT or mountaineering boots.
(Participants in High Peaks traverse should consider using lighter weight
boots).
- Day pack big enough for all of the below:
- Several adjustable layers of synthetic, wool or silk clothing to
accommodate temperature extremes when active and resting. We recommend skiing in lighter weight, breathable layers (to minimize overheating) and then having a heavier insulating jacket (like Primaloft) to put over everything at rest breaks. Be prepared for extreme conditions.
- Water resistant/breathable jacket with hood
- Warm hat and extra pair of warm gloves or mittens
- Plenty of food and fluids (2 liters+) for the day. A thermos full of hot liquids is great.
- Sunglasses and/or goggles for eye protection from sun and tree branches
- headlamp with extra batteries
Optional personal items (Guides/Instructors will have these for the group)
- personal repair kit for bindings, poles & packs
- personal care kit: band-aids, athletic tape, sterile gauze, ibuprofen
Intermediate and Advanced Tours:
- Participants in the Intermediate and Advanced
tours will need climbing skins (pre-adjusted and fit to your skis).
Limited rentals are available at the Mountaineer.
- Participants in the Advanced tour need beacon, probe
and shovel and should include a pair of 10-12 point mountaineering crampons
(pre-adjusted and fit to your boots).
