Mountaineer's Take: This has taken over from the
Smartwool Mountaineering sock as our favorite
over-the-calf sock for mountaineering and ice climbing.
It's very thick to pad the foot from stiff boots, and
it won't scrunch down inside the boot since it is held
up by your calf. Warning: it's so thick it will make
your boot feel tighter--if you don't have much space in
the boot you might consider a thinner sock.
Darn Tough Says: Extra heavy terry loop cushioning
surrounds the entire foot and entire leg for maximum
warmth. Over-the-calf, terry rib knit for custom fit.
Custom shrink treated Merino wool. Reinforced heel and
toe. Elastic support at the arch. Ring toe construction
for a comfortable, invisible seam. Ideal for extreme
cold weather.

you machine wash them in warm water on gentle cycle with
