Mountaineer's Take: The new Karhu XCD GT, now
branded Madshus Eon with updated
graphics. Otherwise the same great ski that we've loved for
the past few years, ideal for lower angle touring when a
metal edge is still useful.
The Eon is the best choice for
kick-and-glide in the backcountry. It can turn on packed or
even icy trails because of its metal edges and slight
sidecut, but it still tracks well for speed when you want
to cruise. If your tours involve significant descents you'll
probably want more turning ability--check out the Madshus
Epoch instead.
Madshus Says: The Eon is the classic bridge
between Nordic and Downhill design, the embodiment of
efficiency and versatility for off-trail travel. Its
narrower platform, Omnitrak® NoWax base and added camber
tour with ease and provide a snap to your stride. For
the occasional descent or rolling terrain, the Eon turns
quickly with its deeper sidecut in the forebody for a
relaxed, smooth ride.
