High Peaks Fly Fishing Conditions Report 7/22

At Ausable Forks, the “Ausables” are flowing at approx. 600cfs currently. Mid-day water temps are creeping to 65+ degrees on the West Branch and warmer on some beats of the East. PLEASE, exercise caution in trout fishing as the lower water levels and higher water temps will stress fish caught. Catch and release quickly and keep them in the water! Or, skip it and get out for Bass or Pike!

Fish early. Like, when-you-went-fishing-with-your-grandfather early. 😉

Try: Large Streamers (2-6) like Circus Peanuts, WMD’s and CH Marabou Muddlers. On top, BWO’s (12-18), Assorted Caddis (14-18) and Stoneflies (10-12) will be out…Stimulators, Muddler Minnows, Elk Hair Caddis (Brown or Tan), Adams Parachutes and BWO Parachutes from 10—18 will draw strikes. Grasshoppers, Ants and Beetles are taking a swim this time of year, so try these above undercuts and near structure.

Warm water fishing is really good right now. Best bets are Poppers (Red or Chartreuse 2-6) to weeds and lily pads for Bass and Big Streamers for Pike.
