High Peaks Fly Fishing Conditions Report 7/29

As of the 29th, the “Ausables” are flowing at approx. 300cfs. Mid-day water temps are creeping to 70 degrees on the West Branch and warmer on some beats of the East. The water is low. The water temp is hot. The air temp is hot. PLEASE, exercise caution in trout fishing on these systems as the lower water levels and higher water temps will stress fish caught. Catch and release quickly and keep them in the water! Or, skip it all together and get out for Bass or Pike!

Trout fish really early or go for a hike up a mountain brook for Brook Trout.

Grasshoppers, Ants and Beetles are taking a swim this time of year, so try these above undercuts and near structure.

Warm water fishing is really good right now. Best bets are Poppers (Red or Chartreuse 2-10) to Panfish and Bass…fish structure (weeds, shade and lily pads for Bass) and Big Streamers for Pike raked out from weed beds into deeper water.

Products of the week are Patagonia Stealth Atom Sling and ECHO Glass Rods, check ‘em out!
