High Peaks Fly Fishing Conditions Report 8/5

As of August 4th, The “Ausable’s” are flowing at approx. 150cfs. Well below average. Mid-day water temps are creeping to 70 degrees. The water temp is warm. The air temp is warm. PLEASE, exercise caution in trout fishing on these systems as the lower water levels and higher water temps will stress fish caught. Catch and release quickly and keep them in the water! Or, skip it all together and get out for Bass or Pike!

Trout fish really early or go for a hike up a mountain brook for Brook Trout.

Grasshoppers, Ants and Beetles are taking a swim this time of year, so try these above undercuts and near structure.

Warm water fishing is really good right now. Best bets are Poppers (Red or Chartreuse 2-10) to Panfish and Bass…fish structure (weeds, shade and lily pads for Bass) and Big Streamers for Pike raked out from weed beds into deeper water. Fish in the early AM or in evening before dusk to dusk.

Products of the week are Airflo Velocity Fly Lines and Patagonia Minimalist Wading Jackets, check ‘em out!

FREE Fly Casting Lessons for all abilities on Wednesday Nights in August…7-8 PM at The Keene Valley Lodge in beautiful downtown Keene Valley.
