High Peaks Fly Fishing Conditions Report 7/13

The Famous West Branch of the Ausable, is flowing at approx. 800cfs currently. Running clear and very fishable… Nymphs, Dries, Emergers and streamer fishing will all continue to work, assess the water and choose the best technique/pattern. Mid-day water temps around 60+ degrees will allow for fish to show themselves on top as well…evenings are the best for this…tie up and hit them right before dark!

Try yellow rubber leg stonefly patterns (8-12) in pocket water or BH soft hackles on a swing…both have proven to work on fish in the middle of the water column.  Large Streamers (2-6) like Circus Peanuts, WMD’s and CH Marabou Muddlers will draw fish out to chase and strike. Work these on feeding lanes and through deeper holes, 12-18” deep, on the move. On top, BWO’s (12-16), Assorted Caddis (12-16) and Stoneflies (10-12) will be out…Stimulators, Elk Hair Caddis (Tan), Adams Parachutes and BWO Parachutes from 12—18 will draw strikes.

Warm water fishing is solid right now. Best are Poppers (Red or Chartreuse 2-6) to weeds and lily pads for Bass and Big Streamers for Pike.
