The Patagonia Micro Puff Is Awarded Gear of the Year
The best warmth to weight ratio jacket that Patagonia has ever built. The Micro Puff Hoody delivers ultra-lightweight, water-resistant, down-like warmth with a synthetic insulation that mimics a down feather.
This jacket is a must have as part of your ski touring or alpine climbing layering kit. The feather light down alternative is revolutionary when ounces become a concern and warmth is the goal.
Synthetic insulation offers warmth even in wet conditions. It has the ability to maintain and trap heat within the loftiness of the insulation, the downside has always been compression and weight compared to down insulation. The Micro Puff solves that problem. The Pluma-Fill insulation replicates a down feather and clocks in at 65grams, offering superior polyester like feather insulation.
Some of the features that Mountaineer employee Mike “Kaz” likes about the jacket are the sleek hand warmer pockets (equipped with zippers) and internal drop-in pockets which make storing an energy bar or GU for on the go missions easy.
Kaz uses the Micro Puff as an outer layer during ski touring or throws a hard shell over the piece for full storm proof warmth and protection. The piece can serve as a mid layer for lower aerobic activities and has a wide comfort range, making it your new go to piece for a variety of endeavors.
Don’t be surprised if you find yourself pulling this piece on over a t-shirt during a chilly Spring or Fall night! I bet you’ll find yourself packing it on a back-country mission and forgetting it exists because it’s so light weight.
The nylon ripstop Pertex shell keeps snow and wind out, thanks to the DWR finish, while the elastic cuffs and hem seal in warmth. The innovative quilted construction allows for stabilizing the Pluma-Fill insulation while minimizing the stitching.
The total weight of the jacket is 624g! The left inner pocket serves as a stuff sack with a reinforced carbiner clip-in loop, great for an on the harness jacket.
The jacket packs down to about the size of a Nalgene bottle making this one of the favorite pieces of the Mountaineer staff!
